Biography

Aysel Teymurzadeh was born on April 25, 1989, in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, Soviet Union, during a time of major political and cultural change in the region. She attended Texas High School and then studied at Azerbaijan University of Languages, where she honed her language skills alongside her musical talents. Her background in languages later benefited her international music career.

Teymurzadeh became a well-known name in Azerbaijani pop and R&B music in the late 2000s. Her big break came in 2009 when she was chosen to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest with Iranian-Swedish singer Arash. Performing as AySel & Arash, they sang "Always" at the contest in Moscow, Russia. Their performance was a huge success, finishing third in the final and becoming one of Azerbaijan's best results at Eurovision at that time.

After Eurovision, Teymurzadeh continued to grow her career as both a singer and pianist. Her music blends pop and R&B, following current international trends while staying connected to her Azerbaijani roots. She has worked on building her solo career beyond her Eurovision collaboration, helping to boost Azerbaijani artists' presence in the international music scene.

In her personal life, Teymurzadeh married Murad Adıgözəlzadə, and she continues to stay connected to Azerbaijan while working on various musical projects. Her career is part of a wave of Azerbaijani artists who gained international recognition as the country became more culturally involved with Europe and the international community in the 2000s and 2010s.

Before Fame

Her education at Texas High School and then at Azerbaijan University of Languages gave her the multicultural perspective and language skills crucial for her international music career.

Her path to being selected for Eurovision came at a time when Azerbaijan was making its mark in international music competitions and cultural exchanges.
