Biography

Edward Henrik Larsson, born on September 20, 1971, in Helsingborg, Sweden, is known as a prolific striker. He started his football career with Högaborgs BK before joining Helsingborg IF in 1992, where he helped promote the club to Allsvenskan for the first time in 24 years. His impressive performances caught the eye of continental clubs, and in November 1993, he transferred to Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie. He spent four years there, winning two KNVB Cups before moving to Scotland in 1997.

Larsson signed with Celtic in July 1997 for £650,000 under manager Wim Jansen. He quickly became one of the top forwards in Scottish football. In his first season, he was key in Celtic winning their first league title in ten years, breaking a winning streak by rivals Rangers. His time at Celtic wasn't without challenges; he broke his leg in a 1999 UEFA Cup match against Lyon, a serious injury threatening his career. However, he fully recovered and scored 53 goals in the 2000–01 season, earning the European Golden Shoe. In seven years, Larsson won four Scottish Premier League titles and became a celebrated player, netting 242 goals in 313 games. Celtic fans nicknamed him The King of Kings. He also helped Celtic reach the 2003 UEFA Cup final against Porto, scoring twice in a 3–2 extra-time defeat.

In 2004, Larsson left Celtic for Barcelona, winning two La Liga titles and the UEFA Champions League, assisting twice as a substitute in the 2006 final against Arsenal. He returned to Helsingborg IF, then took a loan at Manchester United during the 2006–07 season, where the team won the Premier League title. He retired from professional football in 2009, scoring over 240 club goals.

Internationally, Larsson played for Sweden 106 times, scoring 37 goals. He participated in three FIFA World Cups and three UEFA European Championships. His most noteworthy international performance was at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, where Sweden finished third, earning Larsson a bronze medal. He later captained the national team. After retiring, Larsson moved into football management and coaching, staying connected to the sport he had been devoted to for nearly two decades.

Before Fame

Henrik Larsson grew up in Helsingborg, a port city in southern Sweden known for its strong local football culture. He matured during a time when Swedish football was on the rise internationally, highlighted by the national team's third-place finish at the 1994 World Cup. Larsson started his career at Högaborgs BK, a small club in the Helsingborg area, where he developed the technical skills and goal-scoring instincts that would define his professional career.

Moving to Helsingborg IF in 1992 gave him his first real experience in competitive senior football, and his role in helping the club get promoted to Allsvenskan showed his value early on. His transfer to Feyenoord in 1993 marked his entry into top European club football, where he played in the Dutch Eredivisie and honed his skills before his career-defining move to Celtic four years later.
