Biography
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a Georgian footballer born on February 12, 2001, in Tbilisi. He plays as a left winger and is currently with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. He is also the captain of the Georgia national team. Known as one of the world's top wingers and a standout Georgian player, Kvaratskhelia is praised for his excellent dribbling, agility, and playmaking skills.
Kvaratskhelia started his professional career at Dinamo Tbilisi at 16, quickly rising in European football. After a short time at Rustavi, he moved to Russia and spent three years with Lokomotiv Moscow and Rubin Kazan. Here, he showed his growing talent by winning the Russian Premier League Best Young Player award twice in a row, becoming a promising young talent in the region.
In 2022, after a short period at Dinamo Batumi, Kvaratskhelia's career took a major turn when he joined Italian club Napoli. His first season was key for both him and the team. He played a crucial role in Napoli achieving significant milestones: reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the first time and winning their first Serie A title in 33 years. He led the league in assists and was named Serie A's Most Valuable Player and the Champions League's Young Player of the Season.
In January 2025, Kvaratskhelia transferred to Paris Saint-Germain for €70 million, quickly becoming an important player for the French club. His impact was immediate, helping PSG achieve a continental treble, including scoring in the Champions League final. He also earned a second Serie A title, having contributed to Napoli's success earlier that season before his transfer.
Internationally, Kvaratskhelia has impressed as well. After moving through Georgia's youth teams, he debuted on the senior team in 2019 and became a key player. His efforts were vital in helping Georgia qualify for UEFA Euro 2024, marking the country's first appearance in a major international tournament and securing his place as a national hero.
Before Fame
Growing up in Tbilisi during the early 2000s, Kvaratskhelia came out of Georgia's developing football scene at a time when the country was trying to make a name for itself in international football. His early years at Dinamo Tbilisi were typical for Georgian talents, though few had gained the international recognition that would later mark his career.
Moving to Russia's football system was key to his development, as the Russian Premier League offered a tougher level of competition and more exposure than he could get at home. His success in Russia, particularly winning back-to-back young player awards, showed he was ready for Europe's top leagues and paved the way for his eventual success at Napoli.
