Letesenbet Gidey, born on March 20, 1998, in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia, is renowned as one of the greatest long-distance runners ever. She holds world records in the 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters, and half marathon, making her the first athlete to have all three records at the same time. Her remarkable performance in various races highlights her exceptional talent in global athletics.

Gidey gained international attention as a junior athlete when she won the junior race at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships at only 17. She defended this title in 2017, showing the consistency and determination that define her senior career. By 2019, she had moved up to senior competitions, winning a bronze medal in the senior race at the World Cross Country Championships that year.

On the track, Gidey has achieved outstanding success at the highest levels. She won a silver medal in the 10,000 meters at the 2019 World Athletics Championships and a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. She reached a career peak in 2022 when she became the World Champion in the 10,000 meters.
