Biography
Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, was born on February 12, 1982, at Nkozi Hospital in Uganda. He went to Kitante Hill Secondary School, then studied at Makerere University and the International University of East Africa. He's married to Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi, who has been actively involved in his public and political life. Before venturing into politics, Kyagulanyi made a name for himself as a musician, actor, and businessman, becoming one of Uganda's most famous cultural figures under the name Bobi Wine.
Before Fame
Growing up in Uganda during Yoweri Museveni's long presidency, Kyagulanyi experienced a country where political opposition was often suppressed, and youth unemployment was high. He expressed these social issues through music, creating a style grounded in Afrobeats and reggae that talked about poverty, governance, and daily Ugandan life. His popularity with working-class and young Ugandans gave him a platform that went beyond entertainment, making his move into formal politics a natural, if risky, step.
