Biography
Carlos Arnoldo Salcido Flores was born on April 2, 1980, in Ocotlán, Mexico. A versatile defender, Salcido began his career as a centre-back, later playing as a left-back, then a defensive midfielder, and eventually returned to centre-back by the end of his career. He started his professional journey with Guadalajara, one of Mexico's top clubs, and eventually returned there to finish his domestic career.
Salcido's international debut came at 24, playing for Mexico's national team in 2004. Over the next decade, he played in three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014) and three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2005, 2007, 2011). His international career highlight was winning the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where Mexico beat Brazil 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium.
In 2007, Salcido moved to European football by joining PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He became a key player there, serving as vice-captain and becoming the first Mexican to win the Eredivisie title. His success in the Netherlands led to a move to the English Premier League with Fulham for the 2011-2012 season. After a year in England, Salcido returned to Mexico, playing for Tigres UANL before rejoining Guadalajara in 2014 and helping them win a league title.
After retiring from international football following the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Salcido finished his playing career with Veracruz. After retiring, he took on administrative and coaching roles. He became the first president of the Liga de Balompié Mexicano, helping develop Mexican football infrastructure. In 2024, Salcido started his management career, becoming the coach for Halcones FC in the Liga Premier de México - Serie A, beginning a new chapter in his football career.

Born in Ocotlán, Jalisco, a city known for its furniture making and closeness to Guadalajara, Salcido grew up when Mexican football was becoming more recognized internationally. During his youth, Mexico was making more appearances in World Cup competitions, and more Mexican players were starting to play in European leagues.
Salcido got his start in professional football through the youth system at Club Deportivo Guadalajara, often called Chivas. The club's focus on using only Mexican players provided a great environment for young local talent to grow. His ability to play in different positions and his strong defensive skills quickly grabbed the coaches' attention, paving the way for his eventual professional debut with the club.
