Biography

Héctor Miguel Herrera López was born on April 19, 1990, in Tijuana, Mexico. He started his professional football career with Pachuca in Liga MX, where he honed his skills and quickly became a promising player in Mexican football. After three successful years at Pachuca, Herrera moved to European football by joining Portuguese club FC Porto in 2013.

Over six years at Porto, Herrera became a key part of the club's midfield, making over 200 appearances in all competitions. His consistent performances helped Porto win a Primeira Liga title, and he became known as one of the top midfielders in Portuguese football. His technical skills, hard work, and leadership made him a favorite among fans at the Estádio do Dragão.

In 2019, Herrera transferred to Atlético Madrid in La Liga, joining one of Spain's top clubs. Under the coaching of Diego Simeone, he played an important role in the team's achievements, including winning the La Liga championship in the 2020-21 season. His experience and versatility were a good fit for Atlético's playing style.

Herrera's international career has been impressive as well. He has over 100 caps for the Mexican national team and has played in three FIFA World Cups in 2014, 2018, and 2022. His standout moment with Mexico came at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he helped the team win the gold medal. Later, Herrera moved to Major League Soccer to join Houston Dynamo, before returning to Mexican football with Toluca.

Before Fame

Growing up in Tijuana, right on the border between Mexico and the United States, Herrera got to see a mix of both Mexican and American soccer styles. During his youth, Mexican football was putting a lot of emphasis on technical skills and training similar to what you'd find in Europe.

Herrera moved into professional football through Pachuca's youth academy, which had a reputation for developing skilled Mexican players and helping them get chances to play for European clubs. He came onto the scene during what's known as Mexico's golden generation of players. These players found success both at home and internationally in the 2010s.
