Her career began in the late 1990s when she co-hosted two TV shows for the Spanish-language network Univision, which got her noticed in Hispanic media and entertainment.
Vergara moved to English-language films with Chasing Papi in 2003 and had roles in Four Brothers (2005) and Tyler Perry's comedies Meet the Browns (2008) and Madea Goes to Jail (2009). She became widely known for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC sitcom Modern Family, which aired from 2009 to 2020. This part led to five Emmy nominations and five Golden Globe nominations, making her one of the highest-paid actresses in the United States.
Over her career, Vergara has worked on various entertainment projects. She appeared in films like New Year's Eve (2011), The Three Stooges (2012), Machete Kills (2013), Fading Gigolo (2013), Chef (2014), and Hot Pursuit (2015). Before Fame
Growing up in Barranquilla, Colombia, Vergara was part of a middle-class family at a time when Colombia faced major social and economic issues. She started studying at the National University of Colombia, but her looks and lively personality opened doors in modeling and TV. Her early career was influenced by the rise of Spanish-language TV in the Americas during the 1990s.
The late 1990s saw an increase in Latino representation in American media, especially through channels like Univision. Vergara took advantage of this trend by co-hosting TV shows that highlighted her natural comedic skills and ability to speak both Spanish and English. Her experience in Spanish-language TV gave her the skills and connections needed to move into English-language entertainment, setting the stage for her big break with Modern Family.
